Finding a passion in life is something that most adults never get their hands on. As a parent, you can offer  your child the opportunity to explore their passions early by providing emotional and material support toward their dreams. Once your child discovers his or her passion, it’s up to you as a parent to support your child toward his or her dreams.

Exploration
Watch your child and see what he or she is naturally inclined toward. If you’re uncertain, this can be a great time to expose your child to different activities, such as sports, dance and the arts. You can tell if your child is interested in an activity, particularly if he or she becomes enthusiastic or can’t stop talking about it.

Support Your Child
Without hands-on parental support, Mozart and Picasso wouldn’t have started out as famous prodigies. Your child needs the support that only a parent or mentor can offer. Be sure to lay off the perfectionism. Once criticism becomes a major factor, your child may no longer find the activity as fun as it used to be. Also, the moment you begin to force your child into an activity, your child may lose interest.

Offer Examples
Paint inspirational future pictures for your child. If your child dreams of becoming a Prima Ballerina, take your kid to a showing of The Nutcracker or another ballet. If that becomes too difficult, show a video of a ballet. Tell your child that with enough practice and time, he or she can achieve wonderful things with an activity.

Stick to It
Your child may want to quit. However, develop a game plan to handle moments like these. Often times, quitting is a due to a minor slump. Have your child continue lessons or practice for a period of time before he or she is certain of quitting.
