Apartment dwelling can be rough on families. Everyone is confined to a very tight space and no matter how hard everyone tries to respect each other’s personal space it always seems as if someone is treading on that fine line between being close and being on top of the other person.

Luckily, there are some tips that many families can apply to their apartment situation that will make any apartment seem like a castle. Here is a short list that may help:

  • Consider the Layout of the Apartment. Many people will take the first apartment that comes their way but if space is an issue for you and your family make sure you look at the layout of the apartment before renting. A layout that has an open feel to it will make it appear as if everyone in the family has more space.
  • Condense Items. A lot of times it isn’t what you are doing or where you are going in the apartment that makes it feel cramped, it’s the various items within the apartment that make it feel as if space is limited. Consider trying to combine items. Many home furnishing stores are taking this approach and offering tables that double as storage bins and other unique two-in-one items that will allow you to give everyone in the family their own space without giving up too much of the limited amount of space an apartment offers.
  • Get Outdoors. Whether you are living in one of the small Los Angeles apartments or a huge loft in New York City, getting out of the apartment will make you less likely to feel cramped and short on space. Just a small walk around the block, sitting outside or taking a trip to the store will help relieve that cramped apartment feeling.
